Acquisition Moves by 3M

Heard of 3M? Yes its exactly the same company responsible for the little red logos on the back of a scotch tape or on a green scotchbrite used for cleaning dishes; it was said to be a diversified technology company over TechCrunch’s data base. TechCrunch also mentioned how vast 3M’s coverage over services is, it also caters to health care, industrial and transportation, safety, display and graphics, security and protection services, consumer and office, and of course, to electro and communications businesses. Today, it gains an additional prestige as it finally was able to buy the famous Attenti and Cogent Inc just this Tuesday morning.

The Tel-Aviv based Attenti is the currently the world’s top ranking supplier for tracking devices such as those used in movies in the form of anklets, little chips, voice recognition devices, and other remote monitoring devices. Accordingly, Dmatek was the former name for Attenti, it was duly acquired by 3M companies for a stunning cold cash amounting to $230 million. On the other hand, Cogent Inc. was bought for a higher deal rising a big $943 million for all the finger print identification services it could provide. 3M surely has more in store for us, next day, it can acquire more and more companies than you could actually imagine.

Google can’t just halt on its venture to a greater power, prestige and wealth as this month is truly productive to them, they have a promising battle with Department of Justice for the acquisition of ITA the online travel and tours guide, they have closed a deal with an online shopping provider, the company is also ready to venture on social networking with its attempt to buy Zynga among others, it has also finally launched its free online service on voice and video calls, and lastly, it has made a new Gmail application called the Mailbox Priority for the uses’ advantage over mail sorting.

Whew? is that all is? Not yet..As the month is nearing to an end, Google again makes another step as it is up to court the most stable movie studios in Hollywood planning to make pay-per-view service on its baby site, YouTube like all the other video streaming sites such as Amazon has long been doing. The deal and planning seems still on its early developing days but what do you know? With Google, nothing really is impossible, the next morning, don’t be surprised if you can actually stream the famous show Glee in YouTube for a pay-per-view fee.

We usually see small stalls over any corner of the street offering product samples such as a tiny glass of wine, a spoonful of a cereal, a free hair make-over using the endorsed hair shampoo, or better yet, a free facial service by a certain dermatologist or a free bottle of a new zero-calorie soda. All these promos and marketing strategies aimed to entice consumers to actually buy and purchase a load full of that new product released. In the online market, sample giving is also a long practiced marketing technique; few of these are those anti virus applications offered in trial for at least 60 long days, a game given to play for only a limited 60 minutes period or that kind of iTunes samples you hear over online stores. But the question is, do these samples render enough to completely evaluate a product? For some, yes it is more than adequate but for a period of over half a minute to listen on a certain song, I don’t think the public agrees.

Apple’s iTunes have realized this finally; listening to their online songs sold in different online stores maybe inadequate compared to other full length samples Pandora, YouTube and other commercial sites could offer. Today, iTunes finally took into consideration the possibility of having their samples doubled in length.

Remember your childhood times when you are simply unstoppable in helping the environment replenish by picking up pieces or dirt from any where else just because your teacher told you to do so? I think most of us had their shining moment of being an environmentalists right those moments back then. Today, what can you say you could do to ease up the widening global wise problems? Maybe plant a tree, clean your backyard everyday, or donate hefty funds to a mighty environmental cause… yes all of those matters, but nothing matters most than the ways a Minnesota farmer came to cherish all this time.
Tony Thompson is more than your neighborhood friendly farmer, he is also one big hell of a catch risking his whole life in studying, analyzing and researching on strategies to battle against the “dead zone”. This so called “dead zone” is a vast area described as to be more or less larger than New Jersey, is an area dangerous to all marine living things because of its lack of oxygen supply allegedly caused by all those long term use of fertilizers over the zone of farming areas. This Thompson needless to say, could not really simply chop of this dead zone but he sure does a lot of preventive measures and making it to the point of organizing speeches and activities aimed to increase the awareness and encourage other farmers he called neighbors to take part of saving the sea and all its life like the Louisiana shrimps of Blanchard.
